Mission and Philosophy
I believe birth is normal and natural. Each mom will create the
birth she desires whether it is non-medicated or medicated. I
will help educate you so that you understand the risks and
benefits of each intervention so that you can choose the options
that fit into your ideal birth plan. Every woman needs and
deserves a doula. I will offer you and your partner the comfort
and guidance you need during your labor and birth. I support all
types of labor whether medicated, un-medicated, c-section,
scheduled induction, and scheduled c-section.
Why I became a Doula!
My inspiration came from the birth of my son in 2003. After
struggling with infertility for over 3 and a half years, I considered
myself a VERY informed mother-to-be. I attended childbirth
preparation classes as well as classes on breastfeeding and
infant care. I read ALL kinds of books and talked with other
moms-to-be at my stage of pregnancy. I planned my birth, but
had no written birth plan. I talked with my doctor frequently about issues and generally
accepted all his recommendations. When I thought I was in labor, I called the on-call doctor
and was told I wasn't in labor. 6 hours later, my son was born. I had an extremely fast labor.
My water broke on my driveway and my contractions were extremely irregular and painful. I
panicked. When I arrived at the hospital breathing frantically, I asked for pain medication. I felt
I could not survive 13 hours of labor if it was going to be like this. "This isn't what I read
about," I thought. "It's not supposed to be happening like this." I was 3cm dilated when I
arrived an hour after my water broke. I took some narcotics to calm myself for the epidural
procedure and quickly realized that narcotics did nothing for my pain. 2 hours later my son
was put in my arms healthy and ready to breastfeed. Soon after my son's birth, I began
studying about my labor and entered the ICEA's childbirth educator certification program.  I
learned about Doula's in the process and observed a local hospitals Doula program. From
there decided I wanted to help women prepare for labor, support them during labor, and
provide support post-partum. Each birth is unique and brings tears to my eyes. I hope I can
"empower" you and educate you to having the birth experience you are looking for.
